Basic Photoshop color tutorial
61This is a basic way to use Photoshop for coloring a line drawing. I used Photoshop Elements for this tutorial, but it applies to any version. You can also do this with the Gimp and several other graphics apps.
1. line art
scan or draw some line art, then set the layer to Multiply. Make a new white layer underneath.
2. base colors
paint your base colors on the white layer. This was done with a hard brush. click on the image to see a larger size.
3. light and shadow
use a brush set to Screen for a lighter shade and one set to Multply to darken. You can vary the shade by changing the brush opacity setting. To work faster, select your figure with the Magic wand tool.
4. highlights
Use the Dodge tool to highlight and make your character pop. This works best if you use a soft brush and do it gradually to get a subtle effect.
